HANNES MUSSNER

Hannes Mussner, born in 1989 in Bozen (Italy), lives and works between Selva di Val Gardena (Italy) and Karlsruhe (Germany).

His artistic formation started with a transformative course in wood sculpture in Ortisei, Italy, sparking a passion that would define his creative path.
Currently residing and working in both Italy and Germany, Mussner's artistry reflects the convergence of diverse cultural influences and perspectives.

Formally educated at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, under the mentorship of the esteemed Prof. Stephan Balkenhol, Mussner completed his master's degree in 2023. Throughout his academic journey, he honed his skills and evolved his artistic expression, culminating in a distinctive style that captures the essence of human introspection.

At the core of Mussner's sculptural exploration lies a profound engagement with human figures, each meticulously crafted to establish a dialogue with the viewer, often through a self-reflective gaze. This intentional connection between the artwork and the observer transforms his sculptures into vessels carrying existential inquiries, blurring the boundaries between individual experiences and archetypal representations.

A pivotal element in Mussner's artistic repertoire is the material he chooses for his creations. In his exploration of materials, Mussner delves into the versatility of clay, wax, plaster, and resin, yet it is the resonance of wood that captivates him. Wood, with its organic qualities and intimate connection to human life, holds a paramount role in his sculptural narratives. Mussner views wood not merely as a medium but as a conduit for expressing the shared humanity that binds us all.

The tactile and spiritual qualities embedded in his works unveil a symbiotic relationship between the primal and the contemporary, creating a profound resonance that echoes through both the formal language of his sculptures and the historical dialogue within the realm of art.

Hannes Mussner's artistic expression extends beyond the visual, inviting viewers to embark on a contemplative journey. Through his sculptural creations, he not only offers a fresh perspective on existence and perception but also fosters a deep appreciation for the significance of wood as a medium that bridges the gap between artistic expression and the essence of humanity itself.
