Marcel Schellekens
Marcel Schellekens
Marcel Schellekens' works are characterised by the special incidence of light and the atmosphere that the works radiate. Marcel finds inspiration close to home in the everyday things, people and animals around him. He depicts exclusively the reality of life and thus draws attention to the beauty of everyday reality.
After his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Utrecht in the graphics department, Marcel started his career making etchings. Initially often black and white but gradually more colour etchings. A complicated process in which he became increasingly skilled. With three colours of ink; red, yellow and blue, Marcel Schellekens is able to print a multitude of colours and tones on paper. By repeatedly reworking the copper plates when making test prints, the work slowly grows towards its final result.
In order to work with the motif in a much more direct way, Marcel Schellekens has also started painting it since 1990. Marcel likes to paint round, soft and romantic shapes that create the atmosphere in his work. He invites the viewer to reminisce about the recognizable and atmospheric works. Marcel knows how to capture unpretentious happiness and nostalgia in his work, making it warm and inviting.
